Hottest April in Earth’s History Causes Severe Wildfires and Unprecedented Property Damage

This past April, the planet we all call home, experienced its hottest month in history. The effect of these rising temperatures leads to droughts and dry land which can lead to wildfires. Towards the mid-west and western parts of the United States, wildfires are not that uncommon. The majority of wildfires are halted to a stop before they can wreak havoc on civilization. However, with the abnormally hot temperatures we have been facing, wildfires could become a problem that is not so easy to control. For example, on May 1st, 2016, in Alberta, Canada a wildfire began that is now recognized as one of the costliest disasters in the country’s history. In only a few days the wildfire covered 614,000 acres, forcing the evacuation of more than 88,000 people, and the destruction of around 2,400 buildings. As devastating as this has been for the Fort McMurray area of Alberta, wildfires such as this have the possibility of becoming the new norm. Which leads us to this question: Have you ever planned what you would do if a wildfire such as this comes rampaging through your hometown? In a state of distress it is almost impossible to remember everything you need. As much as you might like to, you won’t be able to bring all of your valuables/memorabilia’s with you in the event of evacuating due to a wildfire. Somethings must be left behind with fingers crossed that the item may miraculously survive the flames. Even though you may not be able to take all your valuables with you, there’s got to be a better option than leaving them out in the open to be engulfed by the fire.
